Jessie Mae Montgomery, 86, Valley Falls died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Midland Care LinnWood Park care facility at Valley Falls.

She was born on Dec. 9, 1927, south of Valley Falls, the daughter of Walter and Lillie Booth Koons. She graduated from Valley Falls High School.

Jessie worked for many years at Terry's Thriftway in Valley Falls. Prior to that she had worked at the Valley Falls School Cafeteria. She was a member of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Grahem-Herbers, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3084.

She married Theodore R. "Ted" Montgomery on Oct. 17, 1948, at Topeka. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher L.S. Reyner, on Jan. 27, 2012; four brothers, Everett, Elmer, Thaine and Fred Koons; and two sisters, Ruth Kyle and Freda Fisher.

Survivors include her husband, Ted, of the home; a son, Roger (Mayjo) Montgomery, and a daughter, Roxana Montgomery, all of Topeka.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. The Ladies Auxiliary of Grahem-Herbers V.F.W. Post 3084 will have a Memorial Service at the church immediately following the funeral. Burial will be at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Children's Home and sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 6, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
