Daniel was the son of Nathan and Nancy (Williams) Townsend. His siblings were: Priscilla (m. Murrell Breckenridge), Eunice (m. William Moore), Aquila, George Washington, Asher Layton, James K., Nathan, Nancy Ann (m. Zera Towne), Susan Ann (m. Warren S. Towne) and Rose Ann (m. Amos Shaw) Townsend.

Daniel first married Melicent Shaw Oct. 6, 1855. Their children were: Hannah J. (m. William Rudd), Nancy, Margaret Alphareta (m. Jeremiah Miller), Robert, Rebecca E. (m. John A. Caughey), Olive (m. George Elbert), Evolene (m. William Perrine), Bertha (m. Peter Foxen)and Joshua Townsend.

His second marriage was to Jane Shaw Townsend, the widow of his brother Aquila Townsend. They married Dec. 6, 1894 in Pontiac, Livingston, Illinois.

Daniel Townsend
Daniel Townsend, living east of town, died of Bright's disease last Sunday evening at nine o'clock. The funeral was held at the residence Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. S. Wilson.

Deceased was an old and respected citizen. He had been sick for a considerable period. His widow and a number of children, all grown up, survive him.
