Shirley June Massey Long, 74, of the Massey Branch Community in Robbinsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Graham Healthcare and Rehab. A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Lenwood and Leliar Orr Massey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ned Long, Sr.; her brothers, Raymond and Hubert Massey; and her sisters, Ruth Rose, Brenda Huff, and Lena Williams. Shirley dedicated her life to caring for children. She worked for more than 40 years in childcare, first with Snowbird Headstart and then with Southwestern Child Development. She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, her sons and daughter in law, her brothers and her sister. Her grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She also has several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Buffalo Baptist Church, of which she was a member. The Reverends Jimmy Lambert, Michael Rattler, and Jeff Cole will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at the Church, prior to the service. Committal services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 7, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Townson-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
