Velmer Lee Godbey, 79, of Lawrenceburg passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at the V. A. Medical Center - Cooper Drive in Lexington. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Godbey and Matrie Wesley, a daughter Karen Sue Godbey, and his step-father William Dutch Kinder, and three sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Godbey was a native of Casey County, KY and a retired mechanic for Goodyear Tire & Service Center in Frankfort. He enjoyed working in his yard and flowers, working on cars, NASCAR and spending time with his grandkids.

He is the husband of 52 years of Wanda K. Savage Godbey; two children, Terry L. (Beth) Godbey of Lexington and Tammy (Jeff) Godbey-Risk of Frankfort; two grandchildren, David Jared Godbey and Taylor Ann Risk; a special niece, Janet Marie Milton of Harrodsburg; a brother Ray (Ginni) Godbey of Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, Feb. 20th at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Peyton officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Wednesday.
