Capt. Joseph H. Knox, for 15 years a conductor of the Southern Railway, whose home was at 1420 Cherokee Street, Columbia, died in a hospital at Savannah, Ga., last night at 7:30 o'clock, after a brief illness.

Word was received in the Capital City last night of Capt. Knox's death.

Last Thursday the Southern Conductor was found unconscious in his hotel at Savannah, having suffered an attack of illness during the night. He was rushed to the hospital, but continued to grow worse and died last night.

The funeral party will leave Savannah this morning for Columbia, where funeral services will be held at a time and place to be announced later.

A man of personality and courage, Capt. Knox won many friends in Columbia. He was a man who was also well known throughout the state, and there will be many who will miss his presence "on the road". Captain Knox was an efficient employee of the Southern and was always willing to do his part in every undertaking that looked to the betterment of the service of the road.

FUNERAl NOTICE
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Knox are invited to attend the funeral service of the former at the Tabernacle Baptist Church Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
