Obituary for Russel F. Proud MD

Russel F. Proud, M.D., age 91, of Flat Rock, Michigan passed away at home, Monday, March 3, 2014 surrounded by his family after a short illness. A memorial visitation will be held at Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, on Friday, March 7, 2014, 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Flat Rock United Methodist Church, Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:30 am. Cremation has taken place.

Born on November 14, 1922 in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Lindsay and Bethia (Fawcett) Proud. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, piloting 33 missions over Germany and North Africa. He graduated from the University of Toronto School of Medicine in 1953. On April 17, 1976 he married Patricia Jolley in Franklin, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Russ was a Family Doctor in Flat Rock from 1955 until he retired in 1999. He was an active member of the Flat Rock United Methodist Church for over 50 years including singing in the Church Choir in recent years. Dr. Proud was an original member of the Flat Rock Kiwanis Club and also served on the Flat Rock School Board. "Doc" was the Team Physician for Flat Rock Football for many years.

Dr. Proud is survived by his brothers, Melville (Muriel) Proud of Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada and Rev. Arnold (Patricia) Proud of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. He is also survived by his sons, Lenny (Heidi) LaManes of Grain Valley, MO, Dr. Robert Proud Klaehn of Chandler, AZ, Paul Proud of Barnesville, GA and Charles (Heather) Proud of Taylor, and by his daughters, Melanie (Kirk) Bucon of Paradise Valley, AZ, Rev. Dulce Proud of Duluth, MN, Rev. Mary (Susan) Klaehn of Tucson, AZ and Jatawne (Joe) Wells, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Flat Rock.
