Obituary for Barbara Goodson

Barbara Sue Goodson was born on September 2, 1942 in High Point, NC to Douglas and Kathleen Woodall.

Barbara and her twin brother, Doug, were the oldest of their four children.

In 1953, the family moved to Dallas, TX.

While attending South Oak Cliff High School, she met the love of her life, Gerald Goodson, in 1959 in the Acapella Choir.

After she graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1960, she and her family relocated to Charlotte, NC.

Barbara attended Burton Business College and at Thanksgiving of 1960, Gerald flew to Charlotte, NC and proposed.

On August 19, 1961, Barbara married Gerald G. Goodson in her family church, Trinity United Methodist Church.

Later that day, they flew back to Dallas, and Gerald presented her with her wedding present - their first home.

Barbara joined Prosperity Avenue Baptist Church in Oak Cliff, TX which moved to Duncanville, TX and was renamed First Missionary Baptist Church of Duncanville where she served as pianist.

She loved her church family and they loved and supported her for 52 years.

Barbara's life was richly blessed by her husband and three children, Gayla, Kathy, and Gary.

She was employed by the Army Air Force Exchange Service, and she served as Executive Assistant to the Commander the last years of her service. She retired in 2003 after 31 years of service.

Barbara loved the Lord Jesus Christ and lived her life to serve others in the name of Jesus.

It was her joy to help those in need of food, clothing, encouragement, friendship, prayer, or anything else that was needed.

In a world where taking care of yourself is the norm, she took care of others first and gave the glory to God.

Barbara loved singing, playing the piano, sending cards and writing letters, and spending time with her family and friends. She was loving, witty, humble, joyful, and fun.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Gerald Goodson; daughter, Gayla K. Jackson (Jerry) of Daphne, AL; daughter Kathy S. Roach ( Lt. Col. Joseph F.) of Lampasas, TX; son, Gary L. Goodson (Kimberly) of Granbury, TX; grandchildren Reed and Paige Jackson, Nathaniel and Natalie Roach, Brittany Goodson Salt (Ryan); Brooke Goodson, one great granddaughter, Kaymen Salt; sister Carol Woodall Norman (Ron) of Rock Hill, SC, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
