William E. Bolthouse, "Bo Williams,"
passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005 in Henderson, NV after a hard fought battle with lung cancer.
He was born December 5, 1947 in Muskegon, Michigan to Anthony S. and Lorene D. Bolthouse, who preceded him in death.
Born into a very musical family, he studied piano at an early age and was active in school band, orchestra and his church choir. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Monterey, California, at the Defense Language Institute and later in Korea and at the NSA in Maryland.
Bo returned to the Monterey Peninsula following his military service, where he lived until April of 2005. He was active in the music program at Monterey Peninsula College and was a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Pacific Grove from 1967 until his death; Bo worked as the Choral Director at the church for over twenty years.
He was married in 1973 to Marilyn L. Draper of Pacific Grove; the couple was married for 11 years and have two children together.
Bo played keyboards in popular local bands, including Common Ground from 1976-1978, Punchline from 1978-1982, Bo Williams Band from 1982-1995, and directed the 10-piece big band, Bo Williams' Swing Machine from 1999-2005. Bo was considered an excellent arranger, band leader, and show man by the Monterey musical community. Notably, as the Conductor of the Monterey Jazz Band that appeared regularly at the Mission Ranch and The Bo Williams Swing Machine who appeared annually at The City of Monterey's 4th of July City Hall Party. Through the years, Bo donated many performances to raise funds for The Monterey Youth Center, and was given a special Award from the City of Monterey's Park & Recreation Commission for his contributions.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathryn M. Bolthouse and Rebecca J. Bolthouse; one grandson,Tyler Lee M. Petrosky; two brothers, Anthony S. and wife Ellen Bolthouse of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, and James J. and wife Sharon Bolthouse of Lansing, Michigan; and six nieces and nephews: Jon Mark Bolthouse, Bruce Bolthouse, Susan Lonberger, Beth Bolthouse, Sarah Buisch, and Daniel Bolthouse.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday November 16, 2005 at the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Pacific Grove, 442 Central Ave (at Carmel), Pacific Grove, CA. Doors will open at 5:30 pm and the service will begin at 6:00 pm.
Burial: Unknown Specifically Monterey.
