Mrs. Martha Grace Jones, a resident of Cooter for the past 15 years died Thursday afternoon, 4:30 o'clock, at the home of her son, Elmer Jones, in Cooter. She was 65.
While in ill health for the past two years, Mrs. Jones had apparently been much improved in the past few weeks. Death came suddenly as the result of a heart attack.
Born in Casa, Ark., Mrs. Jones lived there until 1929 when she came to Cooter where she has since lived.
Following the death of her first husband, Amon Ashcraft, she married John R. Jones, who died in 1935.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock, at the Cooter Baptist Church, of which Mrs. Jones had long been a member. The Rev. Mr. Pierce, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was made at Mount Zion Cemetery, with LaForge Undertaking Company of Caruthersville was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Jones is survived by the following sons, Ray E. Jones of the Seabees, stationed in North Ireland, Elmer Jones and Glenn Jones, both of Cooter, Charlie Jones of Marston, Mo., Abner Ashcraft of Cooter and Arthur Ashcraft of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Ward of Russellville, Ark.; four brothers, John Tucker of Cooter, Willie and D.A.
