Jean Moseley "Fletch" Fletcher, Gunnery Sergeant, U.S.M.C. (Retired), 83, a longtime resident of Albany, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, in Ponce de Leon.

He was born in Norfolk, Va., to the late Edythe Moseley and James Stafford Fletcher on Aug. 31, 1930. He was a combat decorated veteran of the Korean War and fought at the epic battle of the Chosin Reservoir. GySgt Fletcher was a Distinguished Marksman and Distinguished Pistol Shot. He was a member of the elite Marine Corps Rifle and Pistol Team at Quantico, Va., and was awarded countless medals and trophies for excellence in marksmanship. GySgt Jean Fletcher also played and later coached the USMC Logistics Base Football Team at Albany, Ga.

Jean Moseley Fletcher is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, June Amber Fletcher and his grandson, Thomas Ray Pate, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Ronald "Flip" Fletcher of Tallahassee, Sissi Fletcher Wedgwood of Ponce de Leon, Jean Marie Fletcher of Panama City Beach, Lillian Amber Fletcher Woods of Hartsville, S.C., and Amber Smith Pickle of Waco, Ga.; grandchildren, Ian Wesley of Meyerstown, Pa., Amber Jean Garvey of Garden Grove, Ca., Kyle Fletcher Pate of Panama City Beach, Kristen Bishop Rebollar of McBee, S.C., Justin Pate of Sylvester, Ga., Cyril Fletcher of Tallahassee, Iann Fletcher of Beaumont, Texas, Dillon Garvey of Ocilla, Ga., Jenica Fletcher of Beaumont, Texas, Boone Garvey of Ocilla, Ga., and Barry Lynn Woods of Hartsville, S.C., and many great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Emerald Coast Hospice of Marianna and Panama City Beach.

Memorials may be made in the name of "Papa" Fletcher to any hospice organization.
