Viola T. Wilson
Viola Talley Wilson, over 105-years-old, eased peacefully into her next chapter on February 26, 2014. Vi was born September 8, 1908 in Wilcox County, Georgia to I. Eulas and Susie Pope Talley. She was the granddaughter of Wiley P. and Frances Jane Brady Pope and Thomas W. and Alice Stanford Talley. She was the oldest and last surviving of five siblings, Jesse, Homer and Lowell Talley and Juanita Talley Brogdon.
Her first husband was J.C. Holt of Rochelle, Georgia. They had four children, Nellie Sue, Clarence Howard, Shirley Joan, and Edward.
Her second husband was George P. Wilson of Columbia, South Carolina.
She was of the Baptist faith and a longstanding member of The Eastern Star. Vi had a passion for cooking, quilting, and gardening. She had a full, adventurous life. During WWII, she worked as a welder at the shipyards in Brunswick. She also owned a hair salon in the late 1940's. She loved driving, learning to drive at age ten in the hills of Alabama, where she was raised in a mining town. She was able to stay in her car until age 98. She was greatly admired and loved by many. Her tenacity and vitality were an inspiration to her family and friends.
Vi is survived by her daughter, Shirley Wolfe, daughters-in-law, Goldie and Sally Holt, her twelve grandchildren and their ever-expanding families, her special niece, Diane Womack, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She considered herself very blessed to be part of a close, loving, large family. She treasured the wisdom and traditions of her grandmother, Fannie, and her many beloved aunts.
Vi was cremated and will be buried at Pope City Cemetery among her loved ones. A graveside service will be held March 8, at 11 a.m. Her great nephew, Rev. Darren Talley, will officiate. Family and friends will gather after the service.
