Leenderd Van Rees, born Dec. 12, 1880, in the Bethel neighborhood NW of Pella, died Dec. 14 at the Pella Community Hospital two days after passing his 88th birthday.
On Dec. 16, 1903 he was unites in marriage with Johanna Vos near Sully. To this union five sons were born; Lawrence living at Sully, William, ministering at Grand Rapids, Mich; Cecil of Sully; Edward of Pella and Clarence who died Aug. 28, 1942 at the age of 30 years.
The early years of their married life were spent farming and for the past 32 years he has lived in Sully.
Mr. Van Rees was a member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church since 1902.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Johanna on Jan. 29, 1965, Survivors besides his four sons are 20 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren, sister Agnes, Mrs. Dick Ver Ploeg of Pella.
Preceding him in death, besides his wife and son was a sister Mrs. Henry (Sarah) Willemsen and five brothers; Andrew, Lawrence, David, Joe and Edward Van Rees.
Leenderd was the son of Lawrence and Sarah De Vries Van Rees.
Funeral services was at 1:30p.m. Tuesday in the Sully Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Paul Bakker officiating. the congregation sang 2 hymns accompanied by organist Laroy Jansen. Casket bearers were Donald, Leonard, Gary, David Leon and Clarence Van Rees, all grandsons.
Interment was in Sully cemetery.
