William was born in Fauguier County VA. His Parents were Uriel Crosby and Susannah Conway. His twin sister was Rebekah. In 1789 William moved with his family to Greene County TN. William married there on March 15, 1806 to Elizabeth Landrum. William had 5 daughters:
(1)Nancy Crosby. born abt 1810
(2)Mary Crosby, born abt 1810
(3)Sarah Crosby, born abt 1815
(4)Susannah C. Crosby, born abt 1818. She married William "Wiley" Samuel Reece in Jefferson Co. TN on Dec. 07, 1840.
(5)Ann Crosby, born abt 1819. She married Samuel H. Hunt in Jefferson Co. TN on Aug 06, 1840

Also in 1806, William Crosby inherited approximately 1/3 of the land that his parents owned in Greene County. In 1814 William was drafted as a private into the 3rd Regiment of the East Tennessee Militia. He served from Sept. 20, 1814 to May 03, 1815. His Brigade led by General Nathaniel Taylor marched to Mobile. Along the way the men were used as road builders and wagon guards. After he served our country he returned to Greene County TN, farming his family land. On Sept. 06, 1817 William wrote his will, and then died on Sept. 09, 1817. It is not know why he died at the young age of 35. His birth and death dates are listed in the Bible of his parents and his brother George's.
We are not absolutely sure that William is buried in the Crosby Cemetery. However, since William was living and farming on his property at the time of his death, and the Crosby Cemetery is located on the Crosby property, and his parents are buried there, it is the most reasonable place where he would have been buried.
After his death his wife and daughters remained on the property, until it was sold by his wife in 1841. They then moved to Jefferson County.
The Crosby property in Greene County TN, is now owned by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The TWRA has not allowed the property to be farmed or used as pasture. All the property, except the cemetery, is now overgrown with tall vegetation.

I am seeking descendants of William and Elizabeth "Betsy" Landrum. If you think you may be a descendant, please contact me at [email protected].
