Journalist. Born into a Russian family who left the country after the 1917 Revolution, Hélène Gordon settled in France; after her first marriage, she met her second husband, founder of the newspaper "France-Soir." They both spent the second world war in New York City, where Hélène worked at "Harper's Bazaar" and "The New York Times." After moving back to France, she founded magazine "Elle" in 1945, and remained active until short before her death, performing as a comedienne in 1971.
