William served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-17G #42-97870, 327th Bomber Squadron, 92nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cheshire County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

William was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 ran out of fuel and crash landed two miles south of Bury St. Edmunds, England, while returning to Podington Station 109 after mission to bomb Darmstadt, Germany during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He is interred somewhere in Vermont.
