Roberta Jane was born to Alva and Alice (Lehner) Blacksten on September 20, 1928 in Mitchell, South Dakota. She attended grade school and high school in Mitchell. After graduation she worked at a local bank in Mitchell.
She married Francis (Van) Van Bockel on March 5, 1955 at her parent's home of rural Mitchell.
Roberta will be missed by her daughters, LeAnn (Marvin) Gjernes, Chelsea, SD, Jan (Brian) Winter, Wessington, SD, Cindy (Hugh) LeRoy, Frenchtown, MT and Jodi (Paul) Weber of Woonsocket, SD.
12 grandchildren, Joie and Matthew Gjernes, Vance, Brant, Jay and Jon Winter, Jebidiah Van Bockel, Nick LeRoy, Evan, Tyler, and Alison Nesheim and Josie Weber. Five great-grandsons and three great-grandaughters, a brother DeWayne and wife Marlys Blacksten of Mitchell, and many nieces and nephews.
