Elizabeth "Sudie" Drennan Kirkpatrick McKelvey, of 111 McBee Ave., wife of the late Bufort Benjamin "B.B." McKelvey, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born on July 3, 1911, in Richburg, S.C., Mrs. McKelvey was a daughter of the late George W. and Sarah Drennan Kirkpatrick.

She graduated from Lander College with a B.A. in education and did further study at Furman University and the University of South Carolina. While at Lander, she was president of the Student Body (Government Association), vice president of the Pan-Hellenic Council and the Lander College Christian Association, and was awarded a gold medal as the Best All Around Athlete.

Mrs. McKelvey taught eighth-grade English for 36 years at Easley Junior High School, Fountain Inn Elementary and Hickory Grove Elementary. She was loved and respected by her students, fellow teachers and the Easley community.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Easley, the Wesley Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. McKelvey was a past president of Alpha Delta Kappa and the Easley Garden Club.

Mrs. McKelvey was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Louise K. Caskey, Mozell Kirkpatrick and Maude K. Carter; four brothers, Gaither, Haskell, Luther and Neely Kirkpatrick; a nephew, Charles Caskey Jr.; and two nieces, Kathryn Mosteller and Betty Ann Adams.

She is survived by five nieces, Sarah Baker, Carolyn Mahaffy, Margaret Beckham, Barbara Muller and Sandra Howe; four nephews, Bill Kirkpatrick Jr., Mack Kirkpatrick, Haskell Kirkpatrick Jr. and George W. Kirkpatrick; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Easley, with the Rev. Mac Kinnett and the Rev. George Strait officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, before the service.

Pallbearers will be Curt Sidden, Dr. James Brice, Elliott Strait, John Cutchin, Bucky Crane, Dr. Larry Stroud, Dr. Buddy Thompson and James Oliver Richey.

Honorary escort will be members of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class and members of Alpha Delta Kappa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the B.B. and Sudie McKelvey Scholarship Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 582, Easley, SC 29641; or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
