United States Army Private Tomlinson was killed in action in World War II.

Son of Joseph Tomlinson and Annie Richardson Tomlinson. Herbert, who resided at 517 South Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Private with Company L, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II. He was "Killed In Action" during "Operation Torch", the invasion of North Africa during the war. It was the first action that the 1st Infantry Divison was involved in during World War I. Herbert had served in the Army for two years and one month at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
