Stone with her name also existed in Belvidere Cemetery Belvidere, Boone, IL next to husband James's stone. Belvidere Cemetery has no specific record that she was buried there. Diary of Malinda Post HAWES Hall Rogers records her grandmother as buried in Poplar Grove, IL. Malinda made several such lists in her diaries. ---------
Frances Hancock Lawrence Hawes had a sandstone stone in the Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere IL next to her husband James Hawes stone of the same material and design. "Frances H. Lawrence wife of James Hawes born Aug 26 1803 died Mar 7 1888". The stone appears to have it's own burial plot in a line which included two of her daughters and some grandchildren all with the same general type of stone. The Belvidere cemetery, which is very cooperative, had no record of her burial but had records of the other family members interment when I first inquired.Computerized records at Belvidere Cemetery gave a burial date when I inquired in 1997. James Hawes stone which had fallen before I saw it in 1982 was replaced by the cemetery before 1987. Her stone in the Poplar Grove, IL cemetery was inscribed "Frances H wife of James Hawes died March 7, 1888 aged 84 years" on one side of a 5-6 ft spire with inscriptions for her son and his wife on two other sides. The other two died 9 and 27 years after her. My great grandmother Malinda Post Hawes, who was 16 and living in Poplar Grove when Frances H. died kept lists of where relatives were buried in her diaries. In one she wrote that Francis H., her grandmother was buried at Poplar Grove. The keepers of the records of the Poplar Grove cemetery essentially refused to look up the records. Frances H.'s stone in the Belvidere Cemetery was broken off at the base sometime between 1987 and 1997 and reset with the death date obscured. Dan Wych

Sara HAWES Straw reports that Frances Lawrence Hawes's death certificate reports she was buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery.
