"AGED VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR PASSES AWAY - Stephen F Locke, Aged 83 Years, Spent Greater Part of His Life in Titusville - Funeral Held on Tuesday - Stephen F Locke, one of the best known of the older residents of Titusville, died at the home of Mrs Hannah Ricke, 414 East Central avenue, at an early hour Sunday morning, following illness incident to advanced age. Mr Locke was 83 years of age and had lived in the immediate vicinity of Titusville for the past 80 years, with the exception of a few years when the family removed to Ohio to take up farm life. However, following the death of his wife, he again came to this city where he had made his home with the daughter, where his death occurred at the time stated. Mr Locke was son of Johnathan and Sarah Davis Cook Locke and was born in Lyman, NH, one of seven children who grew to maturity and all of whom he survived. The family came to western Pennsylvania and located on the old Mackey farm south of Titusville where the deceased grew to manhood. Early in the Civil war he enlisted with the Seventh Kansas cavalry and served until the close of the conflict. Survived by Large Family - On March 15, 1869, Mr Locke was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ashley of Guys Mills and they took up their residence at Pleasantville. After a few years the family moved to Titusville and for thirty years resided on First street, where the St Joseph Convent now stands. To Mr and Mrs Locke were born ten children as follows: Mina Calkins, deceased, Fred E Locke, Mrs Mabel Caldwell, Mrs Hannah Ricke and Louis D Locke of Titusville, Stephen F Locke, Jr, of Bradford, Mrs Maud Swartwood of Buffalo, NY, Mrs Mazie Lang of McLain, Tex, George A Locke of Oil City, and Mrs Sarah Eicher of Greensburg. These, together with Claude E Locke, son of the first named daughter, adopted by the grandparents at her death, survive with 41 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. For many years, 'Steve' Locke, as he was best known, was employed at the plant of the Ames Iron Company, also at the Titusville Iron Works company and Young & Locke. He was also a millwright at plant of the Queen City Tannery company. He was a skilled mechanic and his services were always in demand. On March 15, 1919, Mr and Mrs Locke celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Dorsett, O, and Mrs Locke's death occurred the following December. Funeral services in memory of Mr Locke will be held at the residence of Mrs Ricke, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with interment following in Greenwood cemetery."
