Robert J. Spenard dies at 63;
was North Syracuse educator

Robert J. Spenard. 63. of 5859 Sutton Drive. Cicero, died Monday at his home after a long illness. Mr. Spenard was
a life resident of the Syracuse area. He retired in 1981 after 10 years as principal of Roxboro Road Middle School. During his more than 32 year career with the North Syracuse School District. Mr. Spenard also served more than
15 years as principal of Gillette Road Middle School. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Cortland State Teachers College and did work toward a doctorate at Syracuse University.

Mr. Spenard was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Cicero, and a former member of the North Syracuse Optimist Club and the Pastime Athletic Club. He was a member of the North Syracuse District Principals Association and the Onondaga County Retired Teachers Association. He servd as a delegate to the New York State Teachers Association.

Mr. Spenard served 12 years as Cicero town councilman and also was a Cicero town deputy supervisor. He was a member of the Onondaga County Republican Committee and was a former president of the Cicero Republican Club.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War and Mr. Spenard was a member of Eastwood Post 1276. American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Delano; daughter. Deborah Masilli of Cicero: four sons. John, Jeffrey and James "Jay." all of Cicero, and Joseph of Durhamville: two sisters Shirley Ryan of Orlando. Fla. and Janet Stone of Syracuse: a brother, Joseph M. of Clearwater. Fla.: 10 grandchildren: and several niece; and nephews.

Services will be at 9 am. Friday at Fergerson Funeral Home. North Syracuse, and 9:30 a.m. in Sacret Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funera home, 215 S. Main St.. Contributions may be made to charity.
