Robert Edmond "Ed" Byerly, Sr., 92, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, June 30th at his home in Gamewell, NC. He was born to William Harrison and Bradie Free Byerly on January 12, 1921. Ed grew up in Caldwell County where he married Margaret Elizabeth "Lib" Benfield, his wife of more than 30 years. Ed was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Eleventh Armored Division of the US Army in the European Theater, for which he received a bronze service medal, good conduct medal, and WWII victory medal.

Ed is survived by his children, Edwina Greene (Mrs. Roy B. Greene), Brenda Link (Mrs. Gary Link), Tom Byerly, Patsy Coffey, Lydia Woodie, and Sylvia Jean Byerly; his siblings, Ruby Crouse, Helen Winebarger, Lucille Adkins and Linda James; his grandchildren, Sheila Greene Moore, Mark Greene, Shane Link, Alethea Link Fraser, Hope Byerly Higgins, Wendy Byerly Moore, Robert Edmond Byerly, III, Kyle Byerly, Nicole Coffey Seymour, Elizabeth Woodie McCoun, Victoria Woodie Davis, Daniel Byerly, and Mason Byerly; and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Lib, his siblings, Geneva Cardwell, Raymond Byerly, and Raeford Byerly, and his son, Robert Edmond Byerly, Jr.

Pop, as he was known by family, neighbors and friends will be remembered for his happy disposition and love for his family. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with loved ones. Pop was a dedicated, hard worker and generous, devoted family man who taught his children love, respect, and responsibility through his wonderful example.

A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service, 1070 Taylorsville Road in Lenoir on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11 a.m. with Reverend J.W. Crouse and Reverend Bryan Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Kincaid Memorial Cemetery on East Flat Church Road in Gamewell with Military Honors. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, July 2nd from 6-8 pm at Evans Funeral Service.

Pallbearers will be: Mark Greene, Patrick Moore, Seth Byerly, Daniel Byerly, Robbie Byerly and Tony Woodie. Honorary Pallbearers will be: R.B. Byerly, Ben Byerly, Todd Seymour, Kenny Davis, Bryan Moore, Dalton Fraser, Mason Byerly, Dallas Greene, Michael Higgins, Jared McCoun and Kyle Byerly.
