Memorial services for Mrs. Penland will be held Sunday, August 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Morristown Baptist Church.

Violet M. Penland of Hyde Park, Utah, a former Morristown and Wickenburg resident from 1946 until Dec. 1992, died August 8, 1993, in Logan, Utah. She was 88.
Mrs. Penland was born June 14, 1905, in Paulding, Ohio. She graduated from Paulding High School, married James Thompson in 1925. He preceded her in death in 1960.
She later married Archie Penland in 1961 and he preceded her in death in 1986. She was a member of the Paulding Church of Christ, Morristown Baptist and First Southern Baptist of Wickenburg. She had served on the Morristown school board, loved music, studied the piano at the age of ten and played one summer for the old silent movies in the home town theater.
After moving to Arizona she played for church services, school functions, dances and weddings. In later years she began writing poetry as a hobby and has had several of them published.
Mrs. Penland is survived by her daughter, Diane Bell of Hyde Park; sister Mavis Lucas of Wickenburg; grandchildren Justin and wife, Linda Waters of Morristown, and Cherry Waters of Jerome; great-grandchildren Michael Waters of Morristown, Nancy Rixler, Diane Lewis and husband, Rueben all of Wickenburg and great-great-grandchildren Danica and Hilary Lewis.
Services have been held. Cranney Funeral Home handled the Utah arrangements and Wickenburg Funeral Home handled the Arizona arrangements.
