Funeral service for Tommy Ed Roberts,73, of Hartselle, will be Monday, March 3, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Hartselle with Rev. Robert Sparkman, Rev. Bobby Ray Halbrooks and Rev. Harold Sparkman officiating and Peck Funeral Home Directing. Burial will be at the Hartselle City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church. Mr. Roberts died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at his residence. He was born October 19, 1940, in Morgan County to Luther E. Roberts and Katherine Hewlett Roberts. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; brother, Hewlett Roberts; and niece, Kathy Weeks.
Tommy Ed Roberts is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat Hogan Roberts; son, Andy Roberts (Cindy) of Hartselle; daughter, Stacey Roberts Wade (Dr. Freddie) of Franklin, TN;
step-mother, Mabel Roberts of Abilene, TX; sister, Edna Carol Weeks (Jerry) of Hartselle; brother-in-law, Mike Hogan (Becky) of Decatur; sister-in-law, Gaylia W. Roberts of Huntsville; six grand-children.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Mr. Roberts was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Hartselle. He joined the church as a young boy. His grandfather, Rev. Roy Hewlett, was the minister of the church at the time. Early in his career Mr. Roberts and his family owned and operated Roberts' Men's Wear in Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Hartselle Good Samaritan Fund or your favorite charity .

COMMENDING SENATOR TOMMY ED ROBERTS UPON HIS OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
By Senators Dial, Barron, Bedford, Biddle, Butler, Byrne, Denton, Dixon, Enfinger, Erwin, Escott, Figures, French, Holley, Lee, Lindsey, Little (T), Little (Z), Marsh, McClain, Means, Mitchell, Mitchem, Myers, Penn, Poole, Preuitt, Ross, Sanders, Singleton, Smith, Smitherman, Tanner, and Waggoner
WHEREAS, it is with highest honor and upmost pride that we commend Senator Tommy Ed Roberts who has served with distinction in the Alabama Senate and House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, Senator Roberts grew up in Hartselle, Alabama, graduated from Hartselle High School, attended Jacksonville State University, and completed Economic Development Courses at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Oklahoma; and he received an honorable discharge as an officer after serving in the U.S. Army Reserve and Alabama National Guard for over 10 years; he and his lovely wife, Pat, reside in Hartselle; and
WHEREAS, from 1980 to January 2001, Senator Roberts served as President and CEO of the Morgan County Economic Development Association during which time new and expanding industries invested $4.7 billion in Morgan County and created 14,742 jobs; and
WHEREAS, in 1974, Senator Roberts was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives and served two terms; in 1994, he was elected to the Alabama State Senate and was reelected twice; he serves on the following committees; Senate Rules; Finance and Taxation Education; Constitution, Campaign, Finance, Ethics and Elections; Industrial Development and Recruitment; and as Chairman of the Business and Labor; Governmental Affairs; and
WHEREAS, many awards and honors have been bestowed upon Senator Roberts including the Decatur Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow, Hartselle Chamber of Commerce John J. Sparkman Citzenship Award, American Economic Development Council Certified Industrial/Economic Developer, Business Council of Alabama 1995 Outstanding Freshman Senator, 2000 Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperative State Senator of the Year, and Congressional Record recognition by the 105th Congress for his help in bringin Boeing Company's rocket plant to Decatur; and
WHEREAS, a gentleman who is highly respected by all, Senator Tommy Ed Roberts has indeed earned the admiration of all who are fortunate enough to know him; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby commend and acknowledge the exemplary contributions of Senator Tommy Ed Roberts to the Alabama Legislature and the people of Alabama and wish him the best in all his future endeavors. A copy of this resolution shall be provided to our friend and colleague so that these sincere sentiments are formally conveyed.
