Katharine Hyde Williams, 95, passed away peacefully at home in Tiburon.
Katharine was best known for entertaining some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
She and her husband Al Williams owned and operated the Papagayo Room at the world famous Fairmont Hotel in SF. She made friends easily, whether movie stars or regular folk. For more than 20 years, Katharine entertained and greeted the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra at the popular Mexican-themed restaurant/nightclub.
She knew diplomats, princes and politicians. Once she was introduced to Lassie.
Survivors include daughter, Peigin Barrett of San Rafael; niece, Jane Dunn Turner of Rogers, Arkansas; second cousin, Steven Ward of Richmond, CA; and 28 nieces and nephews spanning three generations who live throughout the country.
A casual gathering of old and new friends and family will be held between 6:30 and 7 p.m. Monday Sept. 12 at Keaton Mortuary, 1022 E Street, San Rafael.
A formal memorial will follow.
Family and friends will scatter her ashes at sea at a future date.
