Schwartz, Carolyn Pinkus (Pinky)

Carolyn Pinkus (Pinky) Schwartz, daughter of Corinne and Victor Pinkus, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 16, 1914 and died in Chevy Chase, MD on February 25, 2014. For over 40 years, she was married to Rudolph Schwartz (d. 1988), a Manitowoc attorney. Survivors include her son, Richard Schwartz and his wife, Joyce Schwartz, of Chevy Chase, MD; her son, Victor Schwartz of Madison, Wisconsin; her grandson, Eric Schwartz, and his wife, Emma Arons, granddaughter, Sara Schwartz, and great-granddaughter, Lea Margaret Arons Schwartz, all of New York City; and many relatives and friends. Mrs. Schwartz, a well-known resident of Manitowoc for over 60 years, was the consummate volunteer. She was active in the League of Women Voters, the Council of Jewish Women, AAUW, the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA, the Manitowoc Public Library, and Family Services. She was also instrumental in establishing the Salvation Army day care program. Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the Anshe Poale Zedek Synagogue and the APZ Sisterhood. She loved her community and was always ready to support any worthwhile improvements to it. Mrs. Schwartz had many friends in the Manitowoc area and helped start a women's book group that has lasted for over 55 years. At age 91, she moved to Chevy Chase to be near her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA, 205 Maritime Drive or the Manitowoc Public Library, 707 Quay Street, Manitowoc, WI 54220, or to a charity of your choice .
