Services for John J. Sheean, 74, 775 Montcrest, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, Ill.
Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6, of Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 5 p.m.
Mr. Sheean was a self-employed building contractor for 40 years and was a lifetime member of the Carpenters Union, Local 678.
He was born March 24, 1921, in Fairplay, Grant County, Wis., son of Raymond D. and Stella (Leibold) Sheean. He died at 5:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 1995, at The Finley Hospital.
He married Dorothy M. Pfeiffer April 19, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque; she died Sept. 2, 1992.
He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque, American Legion Post 6, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, his boyhood parish.
Surviving are five daughters, Jacqueline M. (Frank) Meyer, Dona J. (Gary) Oberfoell and Debra J. (John) Tully, all of Dubuque, Ada M. Hale, of Menlo Park, Calif., and Pamela A. Sheean, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, Violet E. Sheean, Corrine C. DeGear and Jeanne R. Randell, all of East Dubuque; and a brother, Patrick R. Sheean, of East Dubuque.
He also was preceded in death by one grandson, Steven Knepper; and his parents.
A John J. Sheean Memorial Fund has been established.
