Ona Olson, 86, of Menomonie, formerly of Colfax and Hudson, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.

Born Aug. 8, 1916, to Margaret Jane (Gibbon) and William Johns in Popple Creek, Dunn County, she worked for room and board as she attended Colfax schools.

On Aug. 16, 1949, in Elk Mound, she was married to Selmer R. Olson. In 1950, they moved to Hudson and resided there until their retirement in 1978, when they moved back to Colfax.

After her husband's death in 2000, she moved to Autumn Village and then later to American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.

Preceding her in death besides her husband, Selmer R. Olson, were two brothers, Victor and Harold Johns; and a sister, Melva Ellingson.

Surviving are a son, Roger (Gayle) Martinson of Laural, Md.; three daughters, Alecia (Carroll) Wahl of Montgomery, Ill., Nancy (Wayne) Quilling of Menomonie and Bonnie (Douglas) Zahler of New Richmond; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Cece Johns of Ridgeland.

Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 19, 4-8 p.m., at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

The funeral service was at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Colfax Lutheran Church with Rev. Leslie Walck officiating.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax.
