Raymond Jefferson Moretz, age 83, of West Jefferson of Buffalo Community passed away Saturday morning, March 1, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Brooks and Rev. Ken Furches officiating. Burial followed in the Lewis Cemetery. Mr. Moretz was born in Watauga County on Friday, June 27, 1930 to the late Sherman Lloyd and Lucy Arnett Moretz. He was a loving father and grandfather, and will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his wife; Virgie Forrester Moretz; and three brothers; John Moretz, Vance Moretz, and Ed Moretz. Mr. Moretz is survived by two sons; Lloyd Moretz and wife Maggie of West Jefferson and Bob Moretz and wife Jane of West Jefferson; four daughters; Betty Moretz of Crumpler, Linda Gilvear of Crumpler, Pam Nantel and husband Andre of Ottawa, Canada, and Jenny Nichols and husband Kevin of West Jefferson; one brother; Don Moretz of High Point; one sister; Mamie Flannery of West Jefferson; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Boone Family Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
