The daughter of the late Major and Ethel Thompson, she received her early education in Durham City Schools and moved to Orange County where she enrolled in Central High School in Hillsborough, NC. She was a faithful and active member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. She worked at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for 30 years and retired as Supervisor of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory in the processing area.
