Born in Elberton, GA, she was a daughter of the late John Cleveland Kay and Texie Linley Kay. She was a 1937 graduate of Girls High. Evelyn was a homemaker and was an avid gardener. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Annette Porter of Anderson; 7 grandchildren, Teresa Spaulding, Bonnie Campbell, Suzanne Smith, Michele Bowman, Kelly Smith, Jennifer Smith, and Jamie Smith; 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lloyd Smith, Sr.; 2 sons, James Lloyd Smith, Jr. and Donnie L. Smith; 4 sisters, Jennie Burdette, Pauline Smith, Kathryn Ayers and Christine Kay; and a grandson, Thomas Michael Porter. Mrs. Smith was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
