Only surviving son of the late Captain Richard Tryon also of The Rifle Brigade and Mrs Richard Tryon of 70 Eaton Place, London SW. He was a nephew of Vice Admiral For George Tryon, who lost his flagship, the Victoria in 1891. His brother Captain Richard Tryon, of the Rifle Brigade, was killed on 10/1/1915
