Owen Verne Taylor, 78 , of Blackfoot, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 with his family at his side.
Verne was born on May 9, 1935 in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Owen Albert and Lois Dunn Taylor. He attended school in Snake River, graduating from Snake River High School on May 20, 1953. Following graduation he attended Idaho State College, graduating on May 18, 1954 in Auto Mechanics.
On May 27, 1955 Verne married Vera Petersen, their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Verne spent most of his life in Blackfoot, except for 7 years spent in Rigby while working of GE at the Atomic Energy Site as a jet engine mechanic.
He joined his father in farming and ranching in 1961 and retired in 1994
Verne was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has served as Sunday School President and in the Elders Quorum Presidency.
He served as president of The Danskin Canal Company for several years
Verne loved to travel, he and Vera spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona and Blythe, California. They went on a few cruises, Caribbean-Panama and Alaska on their 50th wedding anniversary. He also loved aviation, he built and flew model airplanes and he loved wood working and built two homes, one in Rigby and one in Riverside. Verne also enjoyed the times riding his motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Taylor, of Blackfoot; his children: Andrea (Jim) Olsen, of Highland, Utah, Jed (Debra) Taylor and Wade Taylor, both of Blackfoot; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, DeLone McKnight, of Pocatello and Carol (Darwin) Hopkins, of Firth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 and again for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
