~ ~ ~ Obituary ~ ~ ~ CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA - Mona Ann "Shortridge" Young, age 42, died on Monday, 27 March 2006 at her home. She was born in Manassas, Virginia, the daughter of the late Coy Estil Shortridge. Mona was the caring person and wanted to help anyone she knew in any way. She served in the United States Army Reserves during Desert Storm and served in the reserves for 11 years. She attended college at Virginia Intermont and Virginia Highland Community College. She had a degree in Business Management from Virginia Highlands Community College and acquired various other certificates. She was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Paul, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Frnank and Edna Shortridge, maternal grandparents, Ernest and Maggie Harris, aunts, and uncles, Frankie Ann Hale, James Shortridge, Oakley Blankenship, Elmer and Joan Shortridge, Ferrill and Lula Harris, Jerry Allen Harris, and Rita Kay "Harris" Belcher. She is survived by her husband, David Keith Young, one daughter, Cory Ann Young of home, one son, David Keith Young II of the home, one step-son, Joe Young of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, mother, Ruby Shortridge of Honaker, Virginia and friend, Bob Kiser of Castlewood, Virginia, one brother, Steve Shortridge of Glade Spring, Virginia, aunts and uncles, Rosie and Lee Breland, Ida Mason, Dollie Gatliff, Velvie Foleno, Pearl Hale, Patricia Shortridge of Honaker, Virginia, Burke and Diana Ruth Shortridge, Sam and Barbara Harris, Jimmie and Lucie Keen, James Arnold and Paula Harris, Roger and Peggy Harris, Susie and Ronnie Keen, and two very special nieces, Kaycee and Abby. Funeral services for mona Ann Shortridge-Young were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, 29 March 2006 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with the Rev. Mike Moore and Rev. Richard Minton officiating. Interment followed in Temple Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Castlewood, Virginia, with military rites by Lebanon V.F.W. Post #9864, Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers were Chris Evans, Denver Engle, Jeff Smith, Rev. John Adams, Mike Combs, Ron Hilman, Luther Phillips Jr, and Jerry Shortridge. The family recieved friends from 6 to 9 P.M. on Tuesday, 28 March 2006 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia. Castlewood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
