Catherine Koufos Panos was the second child and daughter born to Demetrios Koufopoulos of Zoni, Greece, and Photine Sampos of Siran, Greece, and was stepdaughter to Constantine Skiadas Adamakis of Georitsi, Greece. Loving mother to Stella, Harold and Frannie. Loving YiaYia to Alethea Catherine Kelley and Stephaney Spring and husband Fabian Martinez. Loving sister to Christine K. DiFilippo; Loving Thea to Charles Eliopoulos; Loving cousin to Frannie Raftes Koufos and Anna Koufos, and loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great grandnieces & great grandnephews. Loving wife of 60 years to the late William Panayotakopoulos of Vlahorrafte, Greece.
She was affectionately known as YiaYia Cake to all her family and extended family from all across the United States and Greece. She celebrated her 95th birthday in Disney World. Retired as a well-rounded seamstress, Catherine enjoyed making clothes with and without using patterns, for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She made Christening outfits, wedding gowns, bridesmaids gowns and prom dresses. Baby clothes and baby bonnets were among her specialties. Catherine had to forego a formal education to help support her family. She was the loving sister of the late Helen Adamakis, Penelope Lazarides, Albina Raymond, Angelo Koufos, Theodore Koufos, Julia Koufos, Athena "Edna" Arno, George Koufos, Philip Koufos, Annie Tsoukolas, Catherine Anastos, and Theodore Adamakis. Catherine's family would like to thank GLSS, Meals on Wheels, and Bring Home Care for the love and support Catherine received while still living at home. Catherine's family would also like to thank the staff from Care Dimensions (formerly Hospice of the North Shore) and the Abbott House of Lynn for the love and support Catherine received while a resident of the Abbott House. A funeral service will be held in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt129) Lynn on Tuesday at 10AM. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Catherine's name to the Hellenic Cardiac Fund for Children, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
