The 22 August 1996 edition of the Oroville Mercury Register carried the following obituary:

"Cassie Simmons, wife of William Clinton
Graveside services for Cassie Theodora Simmons will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Sutter cemetery in Sutter.
Visitation was Wednesday evening at the Scheer Memorial Chapel in Oroville.
Mrs. Simmons, 87, died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, at Oroville Hospital.
A native of Oregon House, she was born Feb. 17, 1909.
She had been a housewife for 50 years and had resided in Oroville for 53 years.
Mrs. Simmons came to Oroville as a school teacher at Bidwell Bar School following her graduation from Chico State.
She was active in the Wyandotte Women’s Club where she was a past president, and in the Modern Woodmen of Oroville.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Gideon Jones of Houston, Texas; JoAnn and Ted Shepherd of Oroville and Freida and Terry Nofziger of Woodland.
Other survivors include a son, Bill Simmons of Yuba City, nine grand-children and seven great grand-children.
Scheer Memorial Chapel of Oroville is in charge of the arrangements."
