He was born December 23, 1927 in Wausau, son of the late Edward and Louisa (Alhquist) Braunel.
On September 12, 1953, he married Jean Preuss at the First English Lutheran Church, Wausau. She survives.
Tom was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1951 until 1953. He was a member of the American Legion Post #469, Marathon and participated in the firing squad. Tom worked for Connor's, Wausau, Schuette's Millwork, Wausau and retired from Marathon Cheese Corp. Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed woodworking, playing the concertina, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include, his wife, Jean, Marathon; four children, Jeff (Barb) Braunel, Wausau, Paulette (Mark) Janikowski, Madison, Bruce (Julie) Braunel, Mosinee and Cindy (Brian) Hanke, Wausau; eight grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer and Sarah Braunel, Timothi and Vicki Janikowski, Colleen, Heather and Heidi Braunel; three great-grandchildren, Ava, Tiffany and Michael; two sisters, Millie Petrick, Wausau and Arletta Ahrens, Mosinee; one brother, Herbert Braunel, Marathon; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Hilda, Carrie, Ester, Selma, Ruth and Elsie; and six brothers, Edwin, Rueben, Henry, Norman, Raymond and Walter.
Funeral services will be at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Marathon. Rev. Jon Hadler will officiate. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery, Marathon, with full military honors conducted by the American Legion, Post #469, Marathon. Friends may call on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until time of services at the church.
