Viola Elizabeth (Robinson) Hillger, of Big Spring ; Born July 21,1928 to Bill and Birdie Mae Robinson, the oldest of 16 children, died at the age of 85 on Wednesday February 26, 2014. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Reverand Herb McPherson officiating. Burial will follow at Garden City Cemetery.
She married Glen W. Hillger on November 6, 1946 and were married for 57 years before he preceded her in death in 2005. Also preceding her in death are her parents: Bill and Birdie Mae Robinson; one great grandson: Adam Michael Amos; one brother: Little Bill and one sister Mary.
Surviving relatives are three sons: Bert H. Hillger and wife Pauline of Big Spring, Alton L. Hillger of Garden City and Ronald (Ronnie) Hillger and wife Rose of Weatherford, Texas; five grandchildren: Lisa Ann Parks and husband Russell, Twila Michelle Garza and husband Andrew, Dorie Lynn Henry and husband Casey all of Big Spring, Ronnie G. Hillger and wife Shannon, Dusty Ford and husband Chris, all of Weatherford, Texas; 12 great grandchildren: Keelie Breann Parks, Ransom Colton Parks, Alexis Nicole Parks, Kiara Michelle Thomas, Malachi Jamal Thomas, Andrew Ryan Garza, Tera DaNiese Henry, Jessica Dawn Henry, Drayklyn DeMarco Henry, Baley Hillger, Colton Hillger, and Weston Ford; one great-great granddaughter: Layla Marie Parks; three step –grandchildren: Tyson, Joseph and Madelyn all of Sterling City; three step -great grandchildren: Alexis, Ashley and Madison; one step -great -great granddaughter: Manna Orion Realee Hillger.
She was a farmer's wife, great mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and sister. She loved cooking, gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, fishing, and camping. Before retiring to Big Spring, she lived on the family farm with her husband Glen. They had three children, grew cotton, had a few head of cattle and enjoyed being with and doing things with the family. We had family reunions every year at the lake house on Lake Spence followed with a fish fry until the lake dried up. She was at every family reunion until she got to where she just couldn't make them anymore.
Our mother was the best of the best and she will be missed dearly. Anybody who ever knew our mother would say that she was one of the best women they ever knew she never had a bad word to say about anyone that I ever heard of. She loved flowers and hummingbirds. She loved to watch the deer running across the yard in the early morning hours. The Hillger family was the 2001 Recipient of the Howard-Glasscock Old Settlers' Reunion award for the oldest family still living.
Serving as pallbearers are Russell Parks, Andrew Garza, Casey Henry, Joseph Hillger, Ransom Parks, Ronnie Hillger and Chris Ford. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Drayklyn Henry, Malachi Thomas, Andrew Garza, Weston Ford and Colton Hillger.
