Jacob is the second son of four children born to William Rufus King and Lydia Jones. His parents had divorced, his mother remarried, and the family moved to Diamondville, Wyoming by 1900. Jacob was sixteen years old and worked as a mine laborer. Jacob's older brother, Rufus, died in 1915 leaving a wife and three small children. Jacob married Mary Spence Robertson August 22, 1922. They added two more children to the family, Robert (who died at 2 1/2 years) and Vilma Margaret.
Jacob worked for a grain elevator and a chicken hatchery. Mary died ten years after their marriage. He did not marry again.

REXBURG, IDAHO - Jacob Jehu King, 77, died Thursday in a Rigby nursing home.
Born October 25, 1882 at Fairview, Utah, son of William Rufus and Lydia Jones King. Married Mary Spence Robertson, August 22, 1922.
Survivors: sons, Earl, Plano; Jacob, Sugar City; daughters, Mrs. Anna Wurst, Sugar City, Mrs. Guy Leatham, Rexburg.
Burial, Sugar City Cemetery.
