Alfred L. "Fred" Brochu, age 77, of Iron River, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at his residence. He was born October 17, 1936 in Blueberry, the son of Lawrence and Alice (Banks) Brochu.

Fred was a longtime resident of Superior. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman from 1953-1956. He married Ann Marie Aiken on June, 7, 1960 in Pine, MN. Fred worked and retired from the Harvest Grain Elevators in Superior after many years. He married his second wife, Janet Olby on June 27, 1998 in Superior. Before being overtaken by his rheumatoid arthritis, Fred loved playing Cribbage, hunting, traveling, bowling and playing golf. In his more recent years, he enjoyed visits to the casino, spending time with family and especially his friend, Larry Lawler and his nephew, John Higgins. In his later years, Fred delivered medications for Falk's Pharmacy in Superior.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Brochu - Iron River, 2 daughters, Terri L. Sales - Largo, FL and Roechel R. Brochu - Iron River, a brother, Jim (Mary) Brochu - Superior, a sister, Alice (Fred) Fields - MN, and several step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ann Boursaw, a son-in-law, Polly A. Sales, and 6 siblings, Russell Prigge, William Prigge, Robert Prigge, Joyce Piggott, Marylin Higgins and Ron Brochu.

A Celebration of Fred's life will take place at a later date. Inurnment will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner in the spring.

The Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regional Hospice of Ashland.

Fred's family would like to offer special thanks to his grand-daughters, Desiree Loewe and Amanda Horton for the loving care they provided their grandfather during his last days. Also a thank you is extended to Regional Hospice of Ashland for helping him make his journey in his own way.
