Andrew Mack was the 11th mayor of Detroit, Michigan and was a co-founder of the newspaper which became the Detroit Free Press. He was also a state senator for the Ohio General Assembly and a captain in the War of 1812.
He was appointed as a customs collector for Detroit by President Andrew Jackson in 1829. He was elected as the mayor of Detroit in 1834 when Mayor Charles Christopher Trowbridge resigned. He ran again in the Detroit mayoral elections several times after this but was not successful. He then became a representative for Wayne County in the Michigan state legislature in 1839.
In the 1840's he moved to St. Clair County and acquired land along the St. Clair River in an area that would eventually become the City of Marysville in St. Clair County, Michigan. Here he ran a general store and a post office. He and his wife, Amelia, were buried on their property along the St. Clair River. This property is now the Marysville Golf Course.
