According to his bio as list in Huxford's Pioneer of Wiregrass GA vol 5 p 221, he was the son of Duncan Hughes & Mary. Norman's census records show both his parents were born in Scotland.

Norman married Elizabeth M Parrish in Lowndes on 10 Nov 1853. They had 8 children according to Huxford.

Child # 8, Rose Irene Hughs born 27 Oct 1869, died single Jan 11 1907 according to Huxford. Rose is not listed with mother in 1900...nor is she found as interred at Woodlawn City Cem, Cook, GA.

Note: The surname is found in census from 1830, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 1900 as HUGHS. The spelling is HUGHES in 1880 and after 1900. The family appears to have changed the spelling to HUGHES. Some of the children who died are married before 1900 still used the Hughes spelling. The oldest child of Norman, John J Hughs, retained the HUGHS spelling as seen on his headstone. the other sons of Norman are unmarked. headstone.
