Joe was born July 3, 1951, the son of Loyde and Olga Haas. He attended Mt. Carroll High School. He grew up farming with his parents, and continued farming with his wife after they passed. He married Joanne A. Fischer on June 3, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Early on, Joe enjoyed bowling, pool league, having corn boils, hog and beef roasts. He also enjoyed trail rides with family and friends in the rock quarry pasture. Later in life, he enjoyed going to farm and car auctions – always looking for "a good deal". He had a sense of humor and a streak of stubbornness, but always liked talking to people.
Joe owned and operated Country Classic Auto, the Country Café (Formerly Myrna's Café), Joe's Downunder Bar & Restaurant, and the Mt. Carroll Laundromat in the upstairs of the same building. He was in partnership with a friend to form N-Ovation, Inc., (Microwave plasma to nitrogen fertilizer). Joe also owned "The Other Bar" and banquet room in Millegeville, Illinois.
Joe will be dearly missed by his wife, Joanne; brother and sister-in-laws Larry and Randy Marie Miller Anderson; one nephew, Tyson Miller of Oakland Hills, Michigan; brother-in-law Steven Fischer, of Coconut Creek, Florida; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
