Tuesday
Another distressing accident occurred in the Baltimore & Ohio South Cumberland Yards yesterday morning when switch tender, James Holmes, was almost instantly killed. Exactly how the unfortunate affair happened is not known, but it is supposed that Mr Holmes, who attends the switch at Virginia Lane had crossed the track for the purpose of throwing a switch when a yard engine came along which struck him knocking him over on the West bound track just as No 15 accommodation was passing which almost instantly finished the deadly work begun by the yard engine. Mr Holmes was a cripple, having lost his left arm in an accident some years ago. The remains were removed in Butler's ambulance to his undertaking establishment and after preparing for burial was taken to the home of the deceased, 173 North Centre St. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock from St Patrick's chuch. Interment will be in the cemetery of that church. Mr. Holmes was horn in County Limerick, Ireland, and was 43 years old. He leaves a wife and six children surviving him.
