Cricket international. He played for England in 64 Tests between 1909 and 1934. He had a record in first class cricket that will probably never be equaled: 50,000 runs, 2,000 wickets, 1,000 catches. Yet his Test record was not nearly as striking. He was known for his dignified and assured style, and with good timing batting looked so easy for him. But for someone so gifted, 5 Test centuries leaves the feeling that he didn't realise his potential at the highest level. He still holds many career records for the Kent County Cricket Club and his 52 consecutive Test matches between 1911 and 1926 was a measure of his talent and endurance.
