Andrew was married to Cynthia Bradshaw and in the 1900 census of the Hothouse community of Cherokee, NC Cynthia says she has been married for thirty years and only had one child, and 8 year old Letha, born April 1892, is living with her at that time. However, in the 1910 census, same place, Letha is listed as a Ballew, a niece, 19 and single.
Letha married Jack Ballew and they were parents of two daughters and a son. Daughter Ada Mae Ballew, married Guy Coffey and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. What happened to daughter Lucy is not known, and a brother James Herman married first Aretta Hyde and 2nd Bertie. He died 10 December 1997 and is buried in Tampa, Florida - Findagrave memorial #19695692.
So with conflicting records, it is unclear just who Letha is, but could be a daughter of one of Andrew's brothers. If she actually married Jack Ballew, he never appears with her in any census and no seems to know what happened to him. Both Jack and Letha are gone by 1930 for their daughter Ada Mae is married to Guy H. Coffey by then. Guy, Mae and her two siblings, Lucy and Herman, are all in the same household with 92 year old Cynthia Bell, who raised her.
Andrew's death certificate names his parents, and says he is buried here in Pleasant Hill and the informant was Letha Ballew.
