Jerry graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1972 with a B.S. degree in accounting. He continued his education and earned his MPA in public administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1981. He was a dedicated member of the U.S. Air Force, earning an Honorable Discharge with the rank of captain after 20 years of service. During the first 15 years of his service with the Air Force, he served as an accounting auditor and the remaining five years as a missile launch officer. Jerry had a passion for speed and was an avid car racer for many years. He owned and drove late model stock cars on an oval dirt track and was actively involved in many other various interests.
Jerry was a member of the EDP Auditors Foundation, the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the American Society of Military Comptrollers. In addition, he was a member of Mensa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Day and Elsie Ruth (Younes) Hamm and a sister, Teri Lee Hamm.
Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Linda Norris Hamm; a brother, Larry and wife, Diana Hamm of Louisville, Ky.; and a sister, Meri Bartoli of North Richland Hills, Texas; two nieces, Samantha Bartoli and Stacey Hamm; two nephews, Jason Hamm and Jesse Hamm; and several other extended family members and friends.
A private service will be held for the immediate family, however, memorial donations may be sent to one's favorite charity in memory of Jerry.
