Actor. Born in Butte, Montana, he was best known for the role of pilot 'Sky King Mason' on the popular 1950s television series "Sky King". Prior to being cast of the "Sky King" he was a leading man in a number of western movies. His credits include "Red River Range" (1938), "Bullet Code" (1940), "Chip Off the Old Block" (1944), "Song of Idaho" (1948) and "Yukon Vengeance" (1954). After the "Sky King" show ended in 1959, Kirby traveled with the Carson and Barnes Circus until he retired in 1970. He died at age 73 in Titusville, Florida. Kirby Grant died in 1985 in an automobile accident while on his way to watch a launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger at Cape Canaveral. He was to be honored by the shuttle astronauts for his achievements in encouraging aviation and space flight.
