David L. Thomas, 96, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at his home.

Born July 15, 1903 in Rimer, Ohio, he was the son of James and Cora (Sherriek) Thomas. He was a graduate of Asbury College in Kentucky.

Mr. Thomas was a school teacher for 39 years and worked at several schools during his career. He retired from the Southeast Local Schools. He also worked at the Ravenna Arsenal during the war.

He was a member of Windham United Methodist Church. He was formerly on the board of directors for the Windham Bank. He was a 50-year member of Garrettsville Masonic Lodge No. 246.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors and walking daily.

Survivors include his son, Michael of Silver Lake, Ohio; and sister, Vera Evans of De Land, Fla. His wife, Katherine (Yurchison) Thomas, former principal of Katherine Thomas Elementary School in Windham, whom he married June 14, 1941, died Jan. 28, 1974.

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday at Windham Township Cemetery, with the Rev. Matt Darrin officiating. A Masonic service will be held there at 11:45 a.m. Friday. Arrangements are being handled by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home.
