Larry J. Petersen, age 65, of Lake Shetek, passed away at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a short battle with cancer. on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 25th at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Military Honors will be furnished by American Legion Post 113. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.

Larry Jens Petersen was born on June 23, 1948 to Jens and Elnore (Becker) Petersen in Marshall, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall, Minnesota where he was a life-long member.

Larry graduated from Marshall High School in 1966 and attended Bethany Lutheran College. He graduated from the Accounting program at Granite Falls Vocational School in 1970. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1970 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He was very proud of his service tour in Viet Nam.

Larry was united in marriage to JoAnn Halbur on June 6, 1970 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. They made their home in Marshall until 1995 when they moved to their present home at Lake Shetek. Larry worked for Marshall Fruit Company, Metz Baking Company, AAA, Aid Association for Lutherans, Farmers Insurance Group, and spent the last 23 years of his career at HyVee Food Store in Marshall, retiring in 2013. Larry's enjoyments in life were spending time with family and friends at the lake, grilling/smoking food, and his beloved dog, Sheba. He was especially proud of his four grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn, of Lake Shetek and their two sons and families: Larry Jr (and Laura) of Huron, South Dakota and their children Alex and Ainsley and Michael (and Sarah) Petersen of Marshall and their children Emma and Anna Jo. He is also survived by many special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
